Snurfing at Tenney Mountain, NH

Snurfing at the NEW Tenney Mountain, NH, with PHNX Boards

If you haven't heard about the NEW Tenney Mountain in New Hampshire, it's an exciting story for skiers and snowboarders alike (and PHNX Boarders too). Tenney was a classic 1400' vertical ft. mountain first opened in the 1930s and since then bought and sold many times. The last operating season was 09/10 and most people had lost hope that it would ever reopen. Fortunately, in 2015, Sir Michael Bouchard, an electrical engineering entrepreneur with an interest in minerals purchased the mountain with an eye toward developing its resources. Michael, not having ever skied, quickly found out that there was a huge community of Tenney skiers and snowboarders clamoring to have it reopen as a lift served mountain, and, being an adventuresome guy he decided to give it a go! The story is getting a lot of press (click here for the Concord Monitor story), but the best way to learn more is to follow Tenney's Facebook page, where frequent updates allow you share the excitement.

I met Michael a couple of months ago when I proposed a Tenney Mountain rebranding via Top Ten Promos, my promotional products company. Last Wednesday, I had a chance to visit Tenney before its anticipated opening in the next couple of weeks (Michael and team scrambling to finish repairs and starting to make snow) and Michael generously gave me ride up the hill in his brand new Piston Bully for a look-around and private PHNX Boards test run! As you can see, not enough snow for regular skis and snowboards, but just enough for a PHNX Board! What a thrill that was; thanks Mike!

PHirst tracks at Tenney Mountain!

While PHNX Boards are designed for the 99% of rideable terrain beyond resorts, the opportunity to snurf the new snow at Tenney (still no real snow in Boston!) was too good to pass up. In addition to a couple of inches of fresh snow, Tenney was running several high output snow guns on their tubing trail. Though it was late in the day, I was able to make PHirst tracks in a mix of fresh and man-made snow. This time, in the true spirit of PHNX Boards, I actually hiked up the hill! Thanks again, Mike, and PHNX PHans be sure to head up to Tenney once they open up.
